Waterworks: great place to take beginning bike riders

Two of my children have recently begun riding their bikes without training wheels, so I’ve been thinking of places to take them. The Towpath is nice and relatively flat but SO crowded on the weekends; I don’t think the kids are ready for that yet. So the other day we went to Waterworks. We started off by taking the paved Kelsey Trail. We went both directions until we hit steep hills then turned back. Then we rode some of the official “bike trail” which (I think) goes around the park (it’s marked on the side of the road). This whole route took us about 45 minutes with just a few stops for water. The kids loved it and wanted to keep going, but we didn’t want to push our luck! All in all, I thought it was a great place for the kids to practice their skills on a paved, scenic, relatively uncrowded route.
